Recently, the Triopia community lost someone near and dear to our hearts -- Coach Don Kemp was a man who touched many, many lives in central Illinois and beyond. There will never be another Coach Kemp! If you'd like to share a story about Coach, use the "Add Comment" link to offer your thoughts and memories.

I'm a former student and athlete from ISD and played many games against Triopia back in the early 1960s.
Though I enjoyed beating Triopia when we could, I always considered Coach Kemp's teams to be among the better coached and disciplined teams we played.
I've tried to keep track of his career after leaving ISD, and am glad his teams have continued to do well.
      He will be missed

I'll never forget the day I almost ran off the road with Coach Kemp as my driving instructor. I graduated in 1985 so it must have been in the early part of the 82-83 school year. Coach figured since I lived close to the road we were on that I knew about the tee road just below a quick hill we were about to drive down. The last thing I remembered as Coach hit the brakes in the car was the shocked look on his face. As we got our breath back Coach looked at me very strange and asked how I could forget we had to stop just over the hill. "Coach, I've never been on this road." I sheepishly replied. "Well, you should of known we would have had to stop." he snapped. (There was no way to see the stop sign because the tee road was just a few feet after you went over the hill.)

I guess this would summarize the outlook on life Coach had. He was always looking for the signs even when you couldn't see them. That's what made him a great coach.
